This Butterfly bit has a snaffle mouthpiece and is copper enriched to help encourage salivation and prevent a dry mouth. Usually used on driving horse, often when driving with pairs of horses as there is less chance of the reins getting tangled in the shanks.
The reins can attach to two different rings on this particular bit, the lower the reins attach the more severe the bit becomes.
